We’re going to make this quick, because we don’t have a lot of time. A terrible bill was just announced and it’s going to impact all of us here in North Carolina. If made into law, House Bill 465 would not only prevent female bodied people from accessing abortion services at ECU and UNC’s hospitals, it would also make sure that medical students at those colleges could not be trained on performing abortions.
We can’t let this happen y’all.
Here are five key things you need to know about this bill, courtesy of our friends at Planned Parenthood:
1) Ban abortions performed at two of North Carolina’s most renowned hospitals, UNC and ECU, limiting patients ability to receive the very best care possible;
2) Prohibit UNC and ECU medical schools, two of the finest in the country, from providing doctors with the training necessary to provide safe abortion care;
3) Require that any physician performing abortions be OB-GYN certified—completely disregarding the rigorous training doctors currently undergo for an out-patient procedure with a 99% safety record;
4) Extend the waiting period before a person can obtain an abortion from 24 hours to 72 hours, placing completely arbitrary delays on a time sensitive procedure.
So what are we going to do?
We’re mad, and we hope you’re mad too. These attacks on our bodies won’t stop unless we stop them. See you Thursday.
